Polo Ralph Lauren’s #PinkPonyPromise Comes to Bulgaria

Polo Ralph Lauren’s #PinkPonyPromise Comes to Bulgaria
You know what happens when someone finds out that I have the not-so-secret passion for fashion and I?m indeed a lifestyle slash fashion blogger? Well,
I get in return quite an ironic smirk and the unimaginative and already quite recycled remark ?Aw? a fashion blogger. I see?? And you know? Facing such reactions it’s no surprise. It?s the word ?fashion? that people don?t get… and it?s only when they eventually find out that I blog about other ?stuff? that they actually pay attention. Today’s article will hopefully prompt the ones depreciating fashion to finally give a little credit to the positive influence the fashion industry can have.
A few days ago I was invited to attended a ‘Pink Pony’ fundraising event organised by Polo Ralph Lauren?s Foundation, established to support breast cancer research and treatment. Actually, there’s a personal reason behind Ralph Lauren’s decision to establish a Breast Cancer Fund back in the day. It was when the American fashion icon found that his dear friend, the Washington Post fashion editor, Nina Hyde, was diagnosed with breast cancer that he decided to commit to helping those affected by the devastating disease. For 15 years now the brand?s been designing and retailing ?Pink Pony? garments and accessories, all bearing a pink-pony logo with 25% of every purchase going to the Pink Pony Fund. Actually as a result of the worldwide campaign, that also encourages donations, a few years ago Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Care and Prevention was opened in Harlem, New York City. And I?m pretty sure that during October you?ve stumbled upon at least one photo of someone holding a piece of paper and making a #PinkPonyPromise. Yes, that was the initiative going vital!
Actually there was a specific local cause that inspired Polo Ralph Lauren to join Bulgaria’s ‘Women’s Breast Health Initiative’. Unfortunately, Bulgaria still lacks the radiotherapy machine that?s absolutely essential during the breast cancer treatment. Currently, the country is trying to raise money for purchasing the machine and the money that Polo Ralph Lauren will locally raise will go for that specific cause. And thankfully, so many people among which celebrities, businessman and lovers of the brand stopped by and contributed to the cause.
So yes, fashion may be deemed superficial and not really worth the talk. But after hearing how inspiring a fashion brand (and designer) could be, well, don?t you think it’s time that we appreciated the positive (social and health) achievements a certain fashion brand might have?
(and some champagne. lots of champagne…)
