LTA’S SUGGESTIONS FOR HOW TO WEAR A TURTLENECK SWEATER

LTA’S SUGGESTIONS FOR HOW TO WEAR A TURTLENECK SWEATER

Even though it?s winter and the weather kind of requires you to snuggle in a cosy knitted sweater,
I?ve always found it incredibly difficult finding a piece that won’t be itchy and uncomfortable to wear.
I?d normally stroll around the shops ?testing? the material by bringing it to the skin of my cheeks. Only if it passes the ?anti-itchiness? test it would be tried on and in most cases left for good in the store as it would make me look like a little koala. Not very flattering you might be assuming.
Anyway, with the temperatures dropping below zero I thought it was about time I found a way to make the turtleneck work for me too. I hit the stores and managed to find quite a few lightly coloured jumpers (you know how much I love the pastel trend, right? (here)) and decided to share with you  how I’m planning to rock the turtleneck this winter.
PANTS: MANGO SKINNY OLIVIA JEANS (HERE)
TOP: TOPSHOP CHUNKY RIBBED ROLL NECK JUMPER (HERE)
SHOES: TOPSHOP AGE VINTAGE CHELSEA BOOTS (HERE)
JACKET: HOLLISTER ARCH BAY VEST (HERE)
BAG: MICHAEL KORS MEDIUM GRAYSON LOGO SATCHEL (HERE)

ACCESSORIES: MANGO SUNGLASSES (HERE)
WATCH: DANIEL WELLINGTON CLASSIC TRINITY LADY (HERE)

1. The Oversized Turtleneck sweater:   If the piece you own is oversized and and could be worn as a tunic like this Nastygal Big Deal Turtleneck Sweater, why not do it the 60’s way and wear a pair of tight over the knee boots (more about the trend here) with it?

However, if you feel uncomfortable wearing an oversized jumper on its own, then why not step out of your comfort zone by choosing a knit pencil skirt like this Shakuhachi Gradient one and finish the outfit off with a pair of high ankle Mercer Bootie to pull off an outfit that’s perfectly suitable for a day at work or a business lunch.

And even though this year it’s all about the pastel which is why I’ve already stocked my wardrobe with quite a few lightly coloured pieces, I’ve also got myself a few darker turtlenecks to rock when I move to Copenhagen. This Naven Oversized Ribbed Wool Turtleneck Sweater  by Theory combined with a Leather Panel Skirt  will certainly get me closer to the perfect Dane look.

2. Skinny Pants or Boyfriend JeansIf you?re feeling the casual vibes – then a pair of skinny pants or faux leather leggings are what you should be going for. Swap the high heels with a pair of military ‘Troopa’ Boots  , especially if you want to avoid the awkward gazes triggered by your slipping and sliding on the snow outside.
What about the boyfriend pants then? Well, no matter how cool the combo might be, you won’t be seeing me rocking oversized tops and loose pants any time soon. Actually, an outfit like this is much more appropriate for people with tall and slender figures that won’t be overwhelmed by the outfit. Anyway, if you’re lucky enough to be able to wear such a combo – a pair of chic Jimmy Choo’s is purely a must, which means that you should probably pull off that outfit after the snow’s completely out of the picture.

3. The Mini: Here it is – my all time favourite winter look: cosy sweater combined with a mini skirt (or a pair of shorts) and high heel ankle boots. And no, I will never get enough of it. Just make sure to wear dark thick tights if you don’t want everyone to think that you’ve somehow woken up in the wrong season.

4. Accessories: What about the accessories you wonder? Well, even though you could still wear an oversized necklace (if the turtleneck allows), personally I?m not very keen on that. I prefer accessorising my hands instead with some bracelets, a watch, and a couple of rings. On my face I’d wear some retro-shaped ‘cat eye’ sunglasses and a pair of cute little earrings if I’m going for a dressier option. Just remember: the turtleneck is enough of an accessory so just keep it simple!

5. Outerwear: Depending on the occasion you have a few options to choose among. If you?re off to a work meeting ? then this Waterfall Trench Coat by Jovonnista Sala is certainly the perfect option. You’re about to grab a coffee with your mates or take a flight? Then a leather jacket or a sleeveless gilet ?Olivia Palermo? style is certainly what you need. No matter the type of jacket you choose just make sure that it’s loose enough around the neck so that it’s not clashing with the turtleneck below.

7. The Hair: Messy, messy, messy! The turtleneck covers the neck, so tucking your hair up is  a great idea if you wanna reveal your face a little more, while letting the turtleneck become the focal point of your look. So, me? I’d simply go for the messy sexy bun – you know going all the way down the ‘Dane’ lane. If you prefer to keep your hair down – then just leave it air dry or curl it into some loose waves. That’s certainly a must if you have a square face like me and wanna soften your features that the turtleneck will underline enough.

And you? How would you normally wear your turtleneck sweater? Let me know in the comments below.
