GOING BASIC AND CHIC
Spending way too much time on researching the latest trends, writing about them, featuring outfits inspired by them, I?ve ended up completely discarding the most essential section of my (and actually of every person?s) wardrobe:

THE BASICS!
Ever since I started blogging, I?ve been experimenting with different styles, combining clashing colours, trying to come up with original outfits inspired not only by what?s fashionable at the moment but by my outgoing personality as well. Actually, if I don?t feel myself when wearing certain attire, even if it?s by Alexander McQueen ? I wouldn?t dare go out with it. Okay, this was waaaaay too extreme as for McQueen everyone would (and should really) make an exception but you got my point. Clothes should compliment rather than overpower you.

On Saturday I woke up with the worst headache (from having a bit too much Sauvignon Blanc the previous night) and I literally had no motivation or energy to come up with a quirky yet chic & trendy outfit that would be appropriate for work. And there I was all puffy and drowsy attempting to make myself at least look better than I felt.

Well, I went for the safest colour option ? monochrome, as no matter the occasion it?ll always give this sophisticated and chic touch to an outfit. I combined my new black & white MANGO Jumper (here )with comfiest mid-rise tight jeans (here)?

However, as my feet were quite sore from the stilettos I wore the previous day, I had no other choice but to go for some flats. I put on black over-the-knee boots ? both currently trendy, yet timelessly chic (remember my article for the ‘Twiggies’? (here). Actually, I picked tight high boots for one more reasons: they’re the perfect substitute for the high heels I?d normally wear when I plan to go out in the evening as both of these shoe styles create the illusion that my legs are longer and leaner than they are in reality. Great news really especially taking into account my height (or lack of such).

To jazz up a bit the otherwise quite basic outfit, I got out of my shopping bag the new oversized necklace I got last week.

Even though it wasn?t that cold outside it was the lack of sleep and tiredness, which resulted in annoying goose bumps! While going through my jackets I spotted a black cape coat that I’d completely forgotten about! I got it almost 6 years ago, overly inspired by the preppy outfits Blair wore during the first season of Gossip Girl. *sigh*.

Weirdly, I hadn?t really worn it that much over the years and I was surprised to find out that a) it still looked good on me and b) that I had completely forgotten that I owned such a timeless + trendy + overly sophisticated coat.Bliss!

Even though it?s not really the season of the coral, I decided to go bright and bold and give myself a pop of colour applying some Maybelline New York lipstick (here) on my lips and some thick eyeliner (I recommend Rimmel Exaggerate Eye Liner (here) The ?pale as a ghost? look was all gone and I was ready to head out rock my timeless basics to work.
