A Day-To-Night Outfit and the ‘Hug Me’ Poncho Trend

A Day-To-Night Outfit and the ‘Hug Me’ Poncho Trend

With my hectic work schedule I often end up staying out until late at night. To save myself the hassle to go back and forth, changing outfits few times a day, I find it much more convenient to pull off a day-to-night combo that would be as suitable (and comfortable) for a daily meeting as it would be for a dinner party.

Tuesday was one of those days when I knew I wasn?t gonna make it home before midnight so I went for a chic autumn outfit: a mini long-sleeved bodycon dress (if you?re taller than me 5?2?? why not go for a midi length?) with a pair of pointy stilettos and a tote in pale pink. Actually, every time I rock a day-to-night outfit I make sure to take with me a pair of flats to change into the very moment my
my feet become all fed up with my wild and reckless morning choice of shoes.

To Night
Now, as a side note, have you noticed all those women snuggled up in a piece of clothing that looks more like something you?d be cuddling under while sipping herbal tea and watching ?Hart of Dixie??

While looking at this season?s trends – they’ve literally flooded the runaways: cape coats, reversible loose coats, blanket coats, multi block blanket coats, reversible ones, Burberry Prosum’s model becoming the IT item to have.
Wait a minute! I was pretty certain I?d seen someone else wearing a similar piece of attire. Going through my parent?s ?hippie? album it all made sense. My mom used to wear blanket coats…and it was somewhere around 1989. And back in the day, the hippie in her didn?t allow her to follow the trends? And it?s precisely the effortlessness of her looks that made her outfit and *sigh* blanket coat seem pretty cool.
And now I do feel quite bad for all those occasions when she was trying to lay her hands on a certain ?blanket coat? and rather than helping her pick one, I instead helped her reconsider her fashion frivolity by escorting her out of the store.
Sorry, mom. *blush*
The blanket trend?s been slowly growing on me. And it?s not because of it?s current trendiness. Rather it’s the boho vibes it gives off that I’m gradually falling for. You can throw it over a casual outfit –  jeans, loose white shirt and over the knee boots – as well as over a dressier one, such as the one I was wearing that day.
But still, it does remain a trend that won?t be to everyone?s taste. ‘Blanket coats’ are a girlfriend type of thing.
Let me elaborate.
If some of your girlfriends see you storming down the street in a brand new poncho, they’ll do their best to find out where you got it from, reminding you that you’re ‘such a fashionista!’.
Your male friends? They’ll most certainly be employing the word ‘sloppy? instead (Harlem pants? Same story. They get them)
A quick tip: if you?re aiming to wear a blanket coat on a first date, I suggest you resist the temptation and take it out of your closet whenever you plan a casual day out with your girlfriends. Save yourself the time and energy (and him – the awkwardness) to convince him that you haven’t brought with you your bed wool blanket.
And you? What are your thoughts on the ‘Hug me’ Poncho Trend? 😉
Love,
A.
